Journalist and insider Jason Schreier has shared an update on the current state of GTA VI, and it’s not exactly the news fans wanted to hear.
According to Schreier, Rockstar is still actively finishing major parts of the game’s content. Missions are still being finalized, new material is still being added, and the studio is reportedly still deciding what will actually make it into the final release.
Schreier claims Rockstar is aiming for a November 2026 release, but internally, nobody seems fully confident that the deadline will be met. If the game needs more time, a delay into early 2027 is still on the table.
Some reports suggest the backup plan could be a launch around February 2027.
Schreier notes that while development is moving forward, the true heavy polishing and bug-fixing phase will only begin once Rockstar fully locks down the game’s content. Until that happens, the schedule remains risky.
Take-Two’s financial year reportedly runs until March 2027, which means the publisher has some flexibility if Rockstar decides the game isn’t ready.
Schreier also points out that PlayStation is expected to be the key platform, with Sony likely planning its release calendar around GTA VI’s launch window.
In short - GTA VI is still progressing, but Rockstar isn’t rushing anything, and a delay into 2027 remains a real possibility if quality demands it.
