A new fan theory is making waves across the GTA community, and it's hard to ignore once you see all the parallels laid out side by side.
Players have started drawing connections between Jason Duval, one of the two protagonists of GTA VI, and Jim Davis — the character played by Christian Bale in the 2005 crime drama Harsh Times.
The list of parallels fans have put together is surprisingly detailed:
Both characters share the same initials — J.D. Jim Davis and Jason Duval. Jim Davis had a relationship with a Latina woman named Letty, while Jason is in a relationship with Lucia, who is also Latina. Jim was an Army Ranger with a corresponding tattoo on his arm. Jason served in the GTA VI world's equivalent of the Rangers and has a similar tattoo. Jim's criminal background prevented him from joining the police, but he was recruited by federal agents for work in South America. Fans have long suspected Jason has some kind of federal connection as well. Both characters grew up surrounded by criminals and street culture.
This wouldn't be the first time Rockstar has drawn inspiration from cinema. The studio has a long history of weaving influences from iconic films into their games — from Heat and Scarface shaping the DNA of earlier GTA titles to No Country for Old Men leaving its mark on Red Dead Redemption 2.
Given that pattern, the theory carries some weight.
Fans also pointed out that Harsh Times opens with a nightmare sequence set during a military operation in Afghanistan, which then snaps into a sudden, disorienting wake-up — a tone-setting moment that many feel could translate perfectly into a GTA VI opening.
Whether Rockstar directly drew from the film or the similarities are coincidental, the theory has given the community plenty to discuss ahead of release.
